Its called the Perception Video Recorder (PVR-2500). It has a list price
of $1995.00. An optional video capture daughter board has a list price of
$995. So basically it's the same price as the older PAR. It uses motion
jpeg to compress the video that it records, as do most non-linear editing
systems. Two of the most popular non-linear editing systems Avid Media
Composer and Data Translations Media 100 are touting the highest quality
images as being 120-150KB per frame. The PVR records at 140KB per field!
That's 280KB per frame, in other words, much better images which is its
main advantage over the older PAR. It will also allow programs like Adobe
Premier to be used as front ends for non-linear editing.
